Hurricane Dorian Relief

Soon after reports of Hurricane Dorian’s devastating effect in the Bahamas in September 2019, the team from RBC Dominion Securities was compelled to take action.

Deciding on a clothing drive, a call for new and gently used items was put out to the local Cayman community and the response was overwhelming. The campaign ran for one month and during that time the RBC Dominion Securities Cayman office became a makeshift headquarters for the drive. Volunteers from within the branch and the local community helped to organise and box all donations.

In the first two weeks, the team boxed 3,600 lbs of clothing to ship. At the end of the campaign, the offices had another 8,500 lbs of clothing ready to be shipped. With the assistance of the RBC Dominion Securities branch in Nassau, the shipments were sent to a local charity, HeadKnowles, where a storefront was created to display the clothes for evacuees in the area to view and select the items they needed.

“I think our community is really sympathetic to the realities of being caught in a hurricane and so we really wanted an opportunity to help,” said Andrew McCartney, Managing Director of RBC Dominion Securities. “In the end, our message struck an emotional tone far beyond corporate responsibility and I’m so proud of everyone involved.”
